Nowadays, with the continuous development of the castor industry, more and more different types of castors are appearing. Single wheels, double wheels, central control wheels and so on. Not only the type, but also the choice of caster material is dazzling, with nylon, rubber, iron, polyurethane wheels and so on, making it difficult for people to choose the caster they need.
Last time we talked about how to pick the right caster from the material, hardness and weight, and today we will tell you how to pick the right caster from several other dimensions.
Determining wheel size
As a rule, the larger the wheel diameter the easier it is to drive, the greater the load capacity and the better the protection of the ground from damage. The choice of wheel diameter should first be determined by the weight to be carried and the starting thrust of the truck under load.
Rotational flexibility
The caster should be flexible, easy and durable, and its rotating parts (the stand rotates and the wheel rolls) should be made of materials with a low coefficient of friction or accessories assembled with a special process (e.g. ball bearings or hardened treatment) The larger the eccentric distance of the stand the more flexible the steering, but the load-bearing capacity is reduced accordingly.
The larger the diameter of the wheels, the less effort is required to push and the better the ground protection. Larger wheels are more durable than smaller ones because they turn more slowly and are less likely to heat up and deform. Choose a wheel with as large a diameter as the installation height allows. The larger the single wheel the less effort it takes to rotate, the heavier the load the roller bearing can carry and the greater the resistance when rotating: a single wheel fitted with a high quality (bearing steel) ball bearing can carry a heavier load and rotate more lightly, flexibly and quietly.
Temperature conditions
Polyurethane wheels rotate freely at temperatures as low as -40°C. High temperature wheels rotate freely at temperatures as high as 275°C.
Movement Speed
Requirements for caster speed: under normal temperature conditions, on a flat surface, not higher than 4KM/H walking speed, with a certain stopping time.
Installation Notes
Flat: The mounting surface must be flat, rigid and not allowed to loosen.
Orientation: both wheels must be oriented in the same direction and parallel.
Screws: with spring shims to prevent loosening.
