Nowadays, with the continuous development of the castor industry, more and more different types of castors are appearing. Single wheels, double wheels, central control wheels and so on. Not only the type, but also the choice of caster material is dazzling, with nylon, rubber, iron, polyurethane wheels and so on, making it difficult for people to choose the caster they need. Today, we will tell you how you can choose the right professional castor for you.
Selecting caster material
The choice of wheel material is based on the size of the surface to be used, the ground material, obstacles, residual substances on the site (e.g. iron filings, grease), the environmental conditions (e.g. high, normal or low temperature) and the weight the wheel can carry. Castors made of special materials should be selected for use in special environments (acidic, alkaline, oil and chemical solvents as well as places requiring anti-static properties). For example, rubber wheels are not resistant to acids, grease and chemicals, while super polyurethane wheels, high strength polyurethane wheels, nylon wheels, steel wheels and high temperature resistant wheels can be used in different special environments.
Selection of material hardness
Usually wheels are available in nylon, super polyurethane, high strength polyurethane, high strength synthetic rubber, iron and pneumatic wheel. Super polyurethane wheels and high-strength polyurethane wheels are suitable for both indoor and outdoor ground handling.
High-strength synthetic rubber wheels, on the other hand, can be used in hotels, medical equipment, floors, wooden floors, tiled floors and other surfaces that require little noise and tranquillity when walking; nylon wheels and iron wheels are suitable for sites with uneven ground or where there are substances such as iron filings on the ground; and pneumatic wheel are suitable for light loads and occasions where the road surface is soft and uneven.
Calculation of load-bearing weight
In order to be able to calculate the required load capacity of the various castors, it is necessary to know the dead weight of the transport equipment, the maximum load and the number of single wheels and castors to be used.
The required load capacity of a single wheel or caster is calculated as follows.
T = (E+Z)/M
T = required load capacity of a single wheel or caster
E = deadweight of the transport equipment
Z = maximum load weight
M = number of single wheels and castors used
* Uneven distribution of position and weight should be taken into account
The effective number of load-bearing wheels (M) is shown below.
In order to select the load-bearing capacity to be calculated according to the load-bearing capacity of the caster at the maximum support point. The specific load-bearing support points of the caster are shown below, with P2 being the heaviest support point.
