Caster is a generic term that includes movable castors and fixed castors. The movable castor is what we call a universal wheel, which has a structure that allows 360 degrees of rotation; the fixed castor has no rotating structure and cannot be turned. Usually the two types of castors are used in combination, for example the structure of a trolley has two fixed wheels at the front and two movable universal wheels at the back near the pushing armrest. The movable castors will have a corresponding brake model.
The material of castors is mainly divided into TPR super artificial rubber castors, PU polyurethane castors, PP nylon castors and ER natural rubber castors.
Depending on the use environment, different materials of castors can be chosen.
If you need environmentally friendly castors, we recommend castors made of PU (polyurethane), which generally degrade naturally after 2 years.
If you need wear-resistant, hydrochloric acid and alkali resistant, then the PP (polypropylene) wheel is perfect, and it is cheap and completely at the lower end of the range.
If you are using it in a quiet place such as an office, a high-end hotel or a restaurant, then you can use TPR (artificial rubber) and ER (natural rubber).
PU, PP and rubber are the three basic materials that would be used for castors nowadays. In addition to this, there are also wheels made of other materials such as PA (nylon) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
And depending on the nature of the different materials, various properties are qualitatively improved when other materials are added.
For example, PA (nylon) material, with the addition of special materials, becomes high temperature resistant nylon, which can withstand temperatures of up to 200°C. A qualitative improvement in performance.
At the same time, the hardness of the caster is one of the major factors that should be taken into account when choosing a caster.
The harder the wheel, the higher the load and the more flexible the rotation, but also the more noise it causes. In descending order of hardness, PA (nylon) castors, PU (polyurethane) castors, Super TPU (synthetic rubber) castors and EU (natural rubber) castors are used. Generally speaking PA and PU are hard materials, TPU and EU are soft materials. Different hardness materials are suitable for different conditions of the floor. Soft ground is suitable for hard wheels, hard ground for soft wheels. Rough concrete and tarmac surfaces are not suitable for nylon castors, but should be made of rubber.
PA castors have the greatest load capacity, but also the greatest noise, wear resistance is fair, suitable for use in environments where there is no requirement for noise and high load requirements, the disadvantage is that the floor protection effect is not good.
PU castors are soft and hard, have a silent and protective effect on the floor, are also more wear-resistant and are suitable for the widest range of use environments.
TPU and EU castors are similar in performance and offer the best protection for the floor, while EU has the advantage of high elasticity, shock resistance and wear resistance compared to TPU. The disadvantage is that oil will come out under high heat and there will be obvious wheel marks when dragging. Generally, it is suitable to choose castors made of artificial rubber for places with high requirements for environmental tidiness.
